The OWL Equine Program has partnered with the ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) Gerontology Department, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Lincoln Parish Truancy Assessment Services in a truancy prevention program. They have just wrapped up the program in which they are targeting local public school youth who struggle with truancy, and [...] This spring the OWL Center has welcomed Community Bridges on several occasions. Community Bridges is a residential program for adults with developmental, physical, or mental handicaps. There are nine residential homes scattered throughout northeast Louisiana; each is occupied by 10-12 residents and staff. Community Bridges visits the OWL bi-monthly with 50-75 residents, using the pavilion [...] Homecoming events will take place this weekend, beginning with a Fish Fry at our OWL Center in Dubach, LA on Saturday afternoon at 4pm. All alumni are invited to attend this function, as well as the additional events on Sunday. Please join us for coffee, juice and donuts on Sunday at 9:30am at the James [...] The OWL Center staff would like to thank the many work and volunteer groups that come to the facility throughout the year. Recent groups include The Well UMC from Ponchatoula, and Lufkin United Methodist Church from Lufkin, Texas. These groups helped tremendously with a variety of projects including: picking berries, clearing trails, picking up limbs, [...] Several of the OWL Center Staff participated in the LSU Ag Center Master Gardener’s Class this past spring. Samantha Luttrell, Tammy Stevens, Cindy Croft and Sara Corley took part in classes from March to the end of May. The subjects covered in the class included plant pathology, vegetable gardening, ornamental horticulture, and many other subjects. [...] Recently Rick Rowe and a news team from KTBS TV in Shreveport, LA visited our OWL Center (Outdoor Wilderness Learning) to videotape a segment for the network’s morning show “Made in the Arklatex”. Several youth from the Ruston campus were on hand for the video, and volunteers from Christ United Methodist Church in Shreveport, LA [...] Our youth in the residential program at our sister campus of the Methodist Home for Children of Greater New Orleans, visited the Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center June 11-14 to experience a taste of the wilderness! Youth and staff participated in various activities such as swimming, boating, mountain biking, fishing, field games, ropes course, maze games, [...] You are most cordially invited to schedule a tour of our Main Campus and Outdoor Wilderness Learning (OWL) Center. We welcome you anytime to see firsthand the ministry you provide to Louisiana’s abused and neglected youth. A tour of the Main Campus takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
